Review of The Libertine (2004) by Lea F — 20 Jul 2008
John Wilmot, 2nd Earl of Rochester lived a ibidinous, alcoholic, short life in Restoration England. The film was quite interesting in its portrayal of court and theatre life, which are shown in a similar fashion in two novels set in London in the same period I have recently read.
The portrayal of tertiary syphilis was fairly gruesome - not a very nice end to the Earl's life.
