I'm not a fan of Johnny Depp whatsoever. It seems one only has to take unusual or risky roles to be hailed as some sort of genius actor. Not much to say about this film, it tries to be risque, which is obviously necessary when dealing with a libertine.
However, it isn't risque. It's boring. Fails as a period drama, doesn't make any point, hell, it doesn't even look that great.
