Review of The Leopard (1963) by Olaf K — 30 Aug 2008
Forms a duo with Death in Venice for me. Both movies about a man of standing who mourns inside and the viewer has to explicate the reason for this mourning. Lush drama, exquisitely shot, so that the extravagant riches form the background for implicit sadness.
Visconti's best? Perhaps but I also loved Rocco e I suoi fratelli.
