EVERYTHING IS... UM, OKAY, I GUESS? I MEAN, IT WASN'T REALLY FOR ME!?

Whilst this film has done fantastically well- apparently appealing to the adults just as much as to the kids, I must say that, I still felt like it was mostly just for the kids.

The plot was fairly standard and whilst some of the jokes worked, and the film is certainly self-aware, I still found myself sitting silently for the most part.

It's well-animated and the cast all deliver (don't be surprised if we see a standalone film for Will Arnett's lego-Batman sometime down the line) and, having seen it in the cinema, with someone within the target age-range; it seems to have ticked all of the boxes (I maintain that the music is terrible though).

Still, for me, it just didn't stand out in the way that a Toy Story film does- it was a hell of a lot better than a 'Lego Movie' probably has any right to be but I was left wanting more.

I see why this film has done so well though and there's a moment of brilliance in there that really did strike me as being something truly groundbreaking. I won't spoil it but, as the film starts to come to end, it does something pretty special. Unfortunately, most of what came before that felt pretty standard to me.
