Review of The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019) by Polus_Petrovich — 15 Jan 2023
Batman marries a horse, how could it be anything less than a 7/10?
But seriously, the movie, while not as good as the first one, is still quite good. It gets quite meta, and it gets a little confusing, but I feel like that was intentional. I do, however, feel quite a lack of President Business. He does appear in the movie, but I feel like during the marriage process it would have been kinda cool to at least see him in the crowd. Instead, he just nopes the hell outta there once the... Things attack for the first time, and then makes one final appearance at the very tail end of the movie and blows himself up. Also, if there ever will be a third movie, please, please, PLEASE, tone in it down a bit with the whole... Meta-ness of it all. I said that I liked it, but I feel like maybe it was a bit too much after all. Also, I don't get how the ©Lego®™ Figures can just stand up and walk around easily in their "world", but when they get flung off the table it's suddenly difficult to do? Like, I get it, the kids are probably playing with them when they are in their respective world, but do you think that whole sequence where Lucy tries to infiltrate the space temple was both the kids playing at the same time? Like, there's still quite a logic gap. Or maybe, just maybe, that's not what the movie is really about? I dunno, but it's still a great movie nonetheless.
