Review of The Legend of Tarzan (2016) by Richard S — 15 Mar 2017
Tarzan was a character who first got me interested in superheroes as a kid. I used to watch the old black and white movies and was amazed by this seemingly indestructible man who had control over the animals.
Therefore it was with great interest that I watched this update. As an adventure movie it's quite entertaining but also instantly forgettable and that is down to the lead actor who compared with past incarnations is a little bland.
The special effects were mixed, I thought the CGI beasts looked great but then making Alexander Skarsgaard look younger for the flashback sequences didn't look so good. Christoph Waltz was a decent enough bad guy but then does he ever play anything else? He could phone in his bad guy performances from now.
Overall it was an entertaining couple of hours but this isn't a potential franchise or sequel worthy which is a shame because jungle based adventure movies can still be great, as seen by the recent Jungle Book remake.
