Review of The Legend of Tarzan (2016) by Skeptic303 — 27 Sep 2016
A lot of people actually liked this Tarzan remake, and it performed better than expected. Unfortunately, this was not a good remake for several reasons.
The first 50 minutes could have been chopped down to 7 minutes, as it was mostly a waste of time. Those 50 minutes didn't build anything, whether it may be characters, conflict, or even the plot. In light of this very sluggish opening, it only gets slightly better.
The characters were still one dimensional, as was the conflict. Jane really was just a damsel in distress despite some efforts to go a different direction and Tarzan had a motivation, but no character arc or deep interactions with anything.
It may have became entertaining after those sluggish 50 minutes in the opening, but by no means does that save this movie, let down by almost everything else, from a seal of expendability.
