Review of The Legend of Billie Jean (1985) by Gary G — 28 Nov 2008
I got this movie on bootleg DVD since it was never released in the U.S. Aside from all the 80's fashion, and teenage runaways and riots, it was a wonder to relive the excitement of feminism from a teenager's perspective.
I hope to think this movie molded me into the left thinking liberal I am today. "Fair is fair!" The messages were pretty clear, the not-so-cool kids will always get screwed over by shit-faced cool kids; girls are equal to boys; the man will always try to rape you instead of giving you you're due--then take advantage of any situation to make a buck off of you and finally getting a dramatic haircut can always change your outlook on life and empower you.
These are lessons I carry with me to this day. Hee. This movie also gives you Lisa Simpson having her period for the first time, a whole bunch of cool t-shirt ideas and some classic dos & dont's of 80's fashion.
