There is so much more to this movie than it first appears. Set in Germany during The Thirty Years War it highlights the futility of war and focuses on the relationships between Vogel (Omar Sharif), the villagers and the mercenaries, led by The Captain, Michael Caine.
It was directed by one of my favourite authors, James Clavell.
