Review of The Last Valley (1971) by Stewart S — 07 Nov 2007
Jokes about casting aside ("Who shall we get to portray two early modern Germans? I know! A cockney and an Egyptian..."), the leads ably underline Clavell's all-too-little-known film, which provides one of the more thought-provoking depictions of belief, prejudice and violence in cinema (if one not necessarily to everyone's taste).
Though the conflicts are often staged as extremes, and some work better than others, it is as a rare study of the relationships between the armed and unarmed in society that THE LAST VALLEY is perhaps at its most fascinating.
