Review of The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) by Jalil O — 27 Apr 2010
Scorsese made a lot of religious groups protest against this film upon it's release, mostly due to it's controversial story, but also due to it's depiction of a naked Jesus and also because of his sexual relationship with Mary Magdalene.
However, as somebody with no strict religious beliefs, I enjoyed this film immensly and thought it was a profound, deep and poetic account of Christ's last hours. It's an easier watch than Mel Gibson's Passion Of The Christ and the acting is outstanding. Special mentions also have to go to Michael Ballhaus' excellent photography and Peter Gabriel's haunting music.
