Review of The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) by Ernesto S — 05 Apr 2012
This is a film that gives me a whole new perspective on Jesus.
It's not an "official" telling of the story per se, but it feels a hell of a lot more realistic than "Passion of the Christ" and the later-added-to-the-Bible resurrection of Christ.
The score by Peter Gabriel, along with Martin Scorcese's excellent directing, the cinematography, and the performances only added to this film's beauty.
Of course, any of the Bible belt evangelicals that dominate the south will ultimately despise this film, mainly due to a hallucination Jesus has on the cross, where he is set free and has a normal life.
But, if you are open-minded, this film is an excellent piece of cinema and possibly the best film about Jesus I have seen. The reason why is because in this film, he is imperfect, and incredibly human, adding to our sympathy for the character.
