Review of The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) by Stig Ove V — 24 Aug 2013
Well, I can see why it is controversial, and I can see the merit on exploring a Jesus struggling with his humanity... But even so I couldn't say it is a particularly good film: it is long, slow-paced, and excruciatingly filled with voice-overs that feel more like an amateur reciting bad poetry than an internal monologue.
All the pieces for a great film are there, but I would be lying if I said I thought they were well assembled. Maybe it could be argued it was the due to budget constraints, but I really blame Scorsese for dropping the ball, which is a pity because everyone else -except, maybe, the sound editors - seems to have done a nice job.
