Review of The Last Stand (2013) by Cody M — 15 Aug 2013
Fun, violent action flick which marks the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger to film after his stint as governor, which has the former bodybuilder playing an aging town sheriff who finds his small town is the destination for a recently escaped drug lord who is planning to race across the border.
With a heavily armed mercanies supporting the criminal, the sheriff must mount a defence with only a handful of deputies and the town wacko (Johnny Knoxville). Familiar stuff to be sure, but handled with tongue-in-cheeks style by Schwarzenegger and South Korean director Ji-woon Kim, who keeps the bloody film moving no matter how dumb it gets (and boy does it get dumb.
) Forest Whitaker is wasted in a supporting role as an FBI agent chasing the drug lord, but the rest of the cast does well, and the action has an old-school vibe that is refreshing in the age of bloodless shakycam flicks.
