Review of The Last of the Mohicans (1992) by Scott S — 31 Jul 2009
The Last of the Mohicans (1992) -- [8.5] -- Michael Mann romances the frontier with this dramatic adventure that takes a nostalgic look back at American heritage. Daniel Day-Lewis carries the movie very admirably, with solid performances from co-stars Madeleine Stowe and Wes Studi.
Dante Spinotti captures the raw beauty of the American wilderness in his cinematography, while Trevor Jones provides an equally stunning score (with additional music by Randy Edelman). These creative forces combine to help The Last of the Mohicans transport audiences to another time and place, our own exotic past.
From the forrest massacre and canoe chase to the waterfall and the haunting promentory sequence, Mann delivers a bounty of memorable scenes that stick with you long after the movie is over.
