Review of The Last King of Scotland (2006) by Jack L — 27 Dec 2012
Mini Review 6 - The Last King of Scotland.
Plot:
Scottish medical graduate Dr. Nicholas Garrigan (James McAvoy) yearns for adventure in his life and lands in Uganda to work at a missionary clinic. A strange but funny incident introduces him to Idi Amin (Forest Whitaker) and the duo strike up instantly with Nicholas becoming Amin's personal physician.
Slowly Nicholas realizes the dichotomous attitude of Amin and the rest of the film is about his painful escape from Amin's clutches.
Positives:
--> Amazing performance by Forest Whitaker.
--> Near real life representation of Idi Amin and his dictatorial regime.
--> Racy screenplay and awesome musical score by Alex Heffes.
Negatives:
--> Only if you worry about the film's historical accuracy!
