Review of The Last King of Scotland (2006) by Kris S — 03 Apr 2012
Worth seeing purely due to Forest Whitaker's captivating performances as the notorious dictator Idi Amin, "The Last King of Scotland" has enough dark images to overcome the lost stretches where not much happens.
This movie is at it's best when it focuses more on Amin than it does on the Scottish doctor, Nicholas Garrigan, played by James McAvoy. While McAvoy's performance is solid, his character is nowhere near as captivating as Amin, and it's hard to find sympathy when he spends most of the movie with his head in the sand regarding Amin's regime.
Still, a decent movie, and Whitaker certainly earned his Oscar.
