James McAvoy does well as a young doctor overseas in Africa, performing good deeds while simultaneously dodging the strict hand of his father and tasting some exotic life, but it's Forrest Whitaker's performance as Idi Amin that powers this thrill ride, the mercurial changes in personality, unpredictable and so dangerous.
It's a superb star turn that includes a surprising world history lesson. Good film making with a deep cast of good supporting players.
