Review of The Lake House (2006) by Chads. — 21 Jun 2006
"The Lake House" is more chick-flick than sci-fi, which is to say this film feels like it was based on Nicholas Sparks' stab at speculative fiction. You'll be rolling your eyes at some of Keanu Reeves' purple-prosed voiceovers.
It's not him, it's what's coming out of his mouth. As for Bullock, this material isn't serious enough to bust out her post-"Crash" acting chops. She should've slummed as America's sweeheart one last time before she hangs those reliable dimples up.
Her character isn't complex, just glum. And did anybody stop to consider that a mailbox isn't visually exciting? And what about the dog? Is he Kate's soulmate? "Fluke", anybody? That's one smart canine.
