Review of The Lady Vanishes (1938) by Grace C — 24 Jun 2007
Cool "British phase" Hitchcock flick. Set some time before the Second World War and seemingly a foofaraw about nothing, the very funny script neatly hints at darker personal and political undercurrents that give the film just the right touch of gravitas.
Good performances, too. The premise is interesting, and the ensuing plot has no more holes in it than your average latter-day thriller. Best of all, perhaps no nation laughs at itself so well, as do the English!
