Review of The Lady Vanishes (1938) by Spencer P — 04 Feb 2016
Although Often Noted As Hitchcock's Most Popular And Significant Pre-War Features (Released 1938), This Classic Thriller Is Not Your Usual Hitchcock Film. Plot Twist, Espionage, Suspense, Solid Thriller Are/Can Be All Seen As Hitchcock Trademarks, Which This Film Has, But An Eagle-Eyed Hitchcock Fan Would Notice, What Makes This Stand Out From Most Of His Works.
The Lady Vanishes Is A Slow Moving Thriller With Excellent Performances From The Entire Cast. The Film Differs From Most Hitchcock Films, Mainly Due To The Fact That The Project Was Almost Fully Flushed Out When Hitchcock Came To The Table. The Other Point Is That The Film Is Beautifully Fluid, And It Doesn't Contain An Over The Top Ending Sequence That Doesn't Fit In With The Rest Of The Film.
Despite Being Unusual For A Hitchcock Film, It Is One Of His Better Ones. The Film Is Excellently Made, Has A Solid Story, A Great Script, Great Performances And Of Course Excellent Direction, Making It An Extremely Enjoyable Film. Sadly However The Film Has Severely Dated.
