Amazing what you can do with a great cast, a great script and a grocer's son from Leytonstone, just before he heads for Hollywood. Redgrave & Lockwood are in charming form, along with Dame May Whitty's delightful Miss Froy and of course Radford and Wayne's Charters & Caldicott nearly steal the whole show.
Supremely entertaining, it's also a prescient snapshot of British attitudes to the oncoming war. Pure joy. Comedy, adventure, mystery, suspense, action and romance. The Lady Vanishes has it all. And for some reason, the end always makes me cry.
