Review of The Lady Eve (1941) by James B — 12 May 2009
Sturges succeeds to bring another strong romantic comedy to the screen with The Lady Eve, relying heavily on the symbolism, and resulting humor, of the tale of Adam and Eve (and how it runs head long into the modern lovers).
Sexy with its casting of Barbara Stanwyck and her incredible legs, and some incredible scenes that are very risqué (the less than subtle scene where Jean seduces Charles, where whispered words, fingers in hair, and fanciful stories become stylized sex), The Lady Eve is entertaining romp of a screwball comedy, and with Henry Fonda, gives even Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn a run for their money.
