Review of The Lady (2011) by Oon C — 24 Mar 2013
Well meaning and beautifully produced, but ultimately it's a heavy-handed rather turgid two and a half hour history lesson on the Burma 8888 Uprising. I like actors Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis.
I also liked the early work of Luc Besson, who now seems to favor producing, and occasionally writing, silly international action films, so I was interested to see him directing again, since this was only the third live action film he's made in over ten years.
Sadly this film lacks any of the emotion or intrigue of his early film and ends up being both pretentious and dull. Watch John Boorman's more fictionalized version of these same events in "Beyond Rangoon" instead.
