Review of The Kite Runner (2007) by Joe L — 26 Jul 2010
It seems Marc Forster really is the master of hard-hitting dramas. The movie visually is stunning the sequences with the kites is filmed beautifully. The soundtrack is equally great as it's almost the middle eastern equivalent of the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack and adds to setting of the film wonderfully.
The story itself I'm sure left out details of the book (have't read it yet myself) but that's just the nature of film. The start of the film is great as the two actors who played the young boys pull it off flawlessly.
So when the big tradgic event happens it's really believable and truly sad. The middle is perhaps the only slow part of the film, but still necessary and the ending sequence bad in Afghanistan after all those years is shocking.
Overall it's a very sad story that has a very hopeful ending and it's a great movie. Extremely well done adding this to my already being impressed with Finding Neverland, Monster's Ball and Quantum of Solace, Marc Forster just might jump up there with the greats among directors for me.
