Review of The Kingdom (2007) by Gabi B — 14 Jan 2010
Confusing and resultingly lifeless terrorism thriller that never really gels with the audience.
Jamie Foxx heads up a quartet of FBI agents investigating an attack on American oil workers in Saudi Arabia but it's all a but of a waste.
The early goign of the film quickly introduces the audience to so many characters at once it makes your head spin, and the majority of them seem to be largely irrelevant for the rest of the movie.
Jennifer Garner and James Bateman don't have anywhere near the chemistry they did in Juno and Foxx looks bored of the time.
The film does kick itself into gear for the final reel to a certain degree but the rest of the way it seems muddled and the mini-twist is obvious to anyone who has been paying a vague attention to what's going on.
I'm sure The Kingdom had it's intention well meaning, a film about this kind of thing is topical but this is a mediocre at best effort.
