Review of The Kingdom (2007) by Filippo S — 28 Aug 2011
A surprisingly good cross-genre film by Peter Berg. Great characters and great acting. Perhaps the best thing about it is that it shows the Saudi world as different and alien, but no better or worse than the West.
Indeed, significant effort seems to go into showing that there are westerners at least as repugnant the Saudi terrorists. In the end, the movie is about good versus evil, rather than east versus west, or Islam versus Christianity.
Maybe this explains why so few critics like it: it runs counter to current popular ignorance and politics.
