Review of The King of Marvin Gardens (1972) by Dave R — 12 Oct 2009
As this film went on, I realized that there were none of the usual conventions we've become used to in standard movies. I kept trying to make sense of what I was seeing. The lines were not being connected for me.
The last moments of the film provided some context that helped make the previous ninety minutes more meaningful. Rafelson is making a unique, original statement with no desire to take a conventional path.
I appreciate that desire. This film was not easy to get through, but in the end, a few of the images and conceits of the film have stayed with me.
