Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Abhiram S — 22 Jan 2011
A study of the mind's of stalkers, King of Comedy is strange, quriky and dark even in its comedic times. It is the story of Rupert Pupkin who's name can't be pronounced properly and he wants to be the understudy of Jerry Langford, a stand up comedian.
Leaving in his own world, Robert De Niro in his best performance(yes better than Raging Bull) follows Jerry Lewis even to his home. Visually I encapsulated, but more than that it was the witty dialogue of the annoying Marsha, the persistent Rupert, and even poor Jerry who just wants to be left alone.
A tale that defies the difference between persistence and obsession, this is a film that is a must watch.
