Review of The Killing of a Chinese Bookie (1976) by Brock R — 30 May 2010
This one is a slow moving, but ultimately intense, portrayal of the underworld of the 70s. Cassavetes' assumes quite a bit on the part of the viewer, which is all positive, as he declines to hold your hand and walk you through the plot.
If this much emphasis on building convincing, dirty, flawed, and imperfectly intelligent characters was put in every film, Michael Bay would be out of a job.
