Review of The Karate Kid Part III (1989) by Rachel H — 20 Jan 2009
For the third installment of the Karate Kid series, it isnâ??t necessary too bad of a sequel. The main plot is more of follow up to first part then the second. The story is a rather simply one, basically about revenge.
From the first film, John Kreese (Martin Kove) who the main villain as a tough, jerk like character, decides he wants his revenge on the Karate kid (Ralph Macchio) by getting help his old Vietnam now billionaire friend Terry Siliver (Thomas Ian Griffith).
Now, my main complaint is why would billionaire care or want to be fooling around his time by tricking Daniel LaRusso (The Karate kid character) that he wants to train him (unaware of what going on) to compete in one last match for revenge? Basically, the character Terry Siliver is training the karate kid on all the wrong ways of karate, in a plan to get him hurt and humiliate him.
This sounds a bit ridiculous but at the same time Terry Silver is presented one of the better performances as appearing as a good guy but yet at the same time as someone who truly is evil and cruel. Admittedly, it's amusing to watch.
As far the rest of movie goes, it continues a solid story between the relationship between the karate kid and his old mentor Mr. Kesuke Miyagi (Pat Morita). It not a great movie, but at the same time it not bad on either.
