Review of The Jungle Book (2016) by Shane B — 21 Aug 2016
In terms of 'talking animal' films, this one is right up there. In fact watching an above average sized Orangutan talk in Christopher Walken's voice is alone worth the admission. I really mean it, you have to see this great ape chat away in Walken gangster parlance.
Its good creepy. The other animals are pretty damn good too. Infact they look and move better than I've seen, quite possibly ever, in terms of CGI. The story and dialogue is pretty standard stuff bar a few funny bits.
Scarlett Johansson had a paltry role in the film, so much so they unfortunately let her 'sing' a bit in the credits. The other voices were bang on, Bill Murray, Idris Elba and Ben Kingsley were great as their respective animals.
Neel Sethi as the jungle mancub, Mowgli, did an ok job but his voice was unfortunately slightly irksome when he said more than a few sentences. Naive doesn't have to be wine-y. And to the greater meaning of the film, the metaphors and what not? I don't know.
..humans suck? 8/10.
