Review of The Jungle Book (2016) by Miles S — 03 Aug 2016
THE JUNGLE BOOK is a lousy effort that does no justice to the beloved 1967 animated classic that it has adapted. While there are a few small improvements ( a better environment and more polishing) the film's a mess with barely any coherence and horrendous pacing, the voice cast is good but not enough to save the film (Sethi is unbearable at times).
I expected better from Favreau since he directed ELF and IRON MAN and already had high hopes for this adaptation but was sorely disappointed. Sparkly CGI was used as an excuse for decent storytelling and depth.
The additions to the story were unnecessary ( keep in mind this is adapting the 1967 Jungle Book animated film). The score was average at best but the songs, though whimsical in the original are manhandled here.
The 2016 version of THE JUNGLE BOOK is a atrocious mess that fails to capture the magic of Walt Disney's classic film. I'd give THE JUNGLE BOOK a 1/10.
