Review of The Joy Luck Club (1993) by Aimly S — 13 Jul 2007
For those of you who aren't Asian, you probably wouldn't be interested in this movie at first glance. No offense, but I totally empathize. I mean, you see them enough every day at school, don't you? =P Juuust kidding. But keep in mind, that I have a feeling this movie only really strikes a chord in those who understand what some of these women have gone through.
I just loved this movie. It wasn't corny, it was poetically scripted and I loved how each mother-daughter pair got their own fifteen minutes to explain their relationship, what the mother wants to pass on to the daughter, the feelings of the daughter and how she learns from her culture. Sounds a little boring, I know, but I found it interesting because they switched time periods all the time (it wasn't confusing at all, btw).
I can't exactly explain why I like this movie so much. It just touched me. =) I recommend this as well.
