Review of The Journey of Natty Gann (1985) by Scott A — 15 Jun 2013
I thought this was a terrific little daughter finding her father journey. Yeah it had a few moments of cheese, but I thought the acting by all the leads was great.
Salenger is flat out amazing. Ray Wise is pretty good as the father and in a nice normal role as well. Despite second billing, Cusack isn't really in this much. He has a breif scene and then doesn't play a major role until like 70 minutes in. Even then, I felt that the journey with him needed to be longer.
The relationship with the Wolf and Natty was pretty good and the way it ended was kind of heartbreaking.
It has the feel of that time frame, and the look of life during the Great Depression.
Good score too.
If you can get by the moments of cheese, the film is nice emotional journey.
