Review of The Isle (2000) by Nathan B — 17 Jan 2010
Pretty average stuff about a crazy mute lady with a sadistic streak running rampant in a pretty location. Who may be in love, but I didn't really buy it. Noticeable for it's unflinching, unsettling, and palpably painful depictions of self-inflicted violence and animal cruelty.
It's last shot is a staggering beauty though; inexplicably and mesmerizingly included it will not likely be forgotten. Has pretentious allusions to Tarkovsky and that blissful last zoom out in Solaris, but it works.
