Review of The Island (2006) by Zach M — 18 Dec 2013
The Island is 2 movies. The first movie is a cool sci-fi THX like adventure, slow and tense, slowly giving away different clues about whats going on, and finally all's revealed and it spins your head, although it feels like a rehash of other movies of the genre sometimes.
After this begins the second movie, the movie that you realize it's a Michael Bay movie. There's helicopters, trucks, and hundreds of explosions that are great to look at, but for almost 2 hours it's a little excessive, especially because it throws almost all of the coolness, creativeness and the morals of the first half and replaces it with said action, silly humour, and a sudden lack of character development.
If they had extend the first half thought the plot through more, and got rid of the second half, this would be a memorable if not slightly formulaic Sci-Fi movie.
