Review of The Iron Lady (2011) by Brad W — 12 Aug 2013
Not having lived through the Thatcher years much of this was completely new to me. I had heard people talking about her, debate raging through the country and everything - but I never knew much about her.
This is a surprisingly intimate movie which seems to cut deftly between making you sympathetic towards an elderly lady who may be losing her mind, and in some ways distanced from the ambitious, power-hungry portrayal of a woman who became the most powerful person in the land - and a bully.
Either way the movie makes you feel something, even though undoubtedly there is a biased perspective somewhere in there (how could there not be with an influential figure) - but it works. It makes you think.
