Review of The Interpreter (2005) by Michelle W — 23 Dec 2008
An interpreter at the UN overhears a plot to kill the much hated Prime Minister of Matabo.
The film started of really well.
Fast paced and really slick. Looked like it was going to be a great little political thriller.
But then for some whacky reason the writers decided that Silvia Broome was going to have this dark history behind her and make her overly involved. the film lost all credibility because of this and after maybe the first half hour it all went downhill.
Sean Penn was great as always and him and Nicole Kidman had some great scenes together where the writing was actually really decent and they were able to have some semi-engaging conversations. But otherwise Broome was realy irritating and amazingly stupid for an UN interpreter.
Ugh, pointless Hollywood thriller.
