Review of The Innkeepers (2011) by Kiral K — 10 Jan 2013
After the awesomeness of Ti West's "House of the Devil" I had very high expectations for this film, unfortunately while good, it is a fairly safe genre excercise. West is great at building tension and the static camera work is nicly suited to this haunted house piece.
The problem is that it starts as a sort of mild ironic comedy and then switches gears to late to horror with some boring scenes in between. With the exception of a nice turn by McGillis, the acting is a bit flat.
I do like that West presents this film as a sort of classic alternative to the unending found footage haunted house movies these days, he just comes up short.
