Review of The Innkeepers (2011) by Jen H — 21 Sep 2014
In retrospect towards Ti West, this movie is really down his alley. It is really effective, in its willingness to slow burn, and use restraint and grace. However, the acting wasn't great, Sarah Paxton lacked consistency between scenes. The suspense was scattershot, could not really get a feeling of dread.
Entertaining, though the story feels well trodden in past movies. --Ti West knows how to do a horror movie and set up effective jump scares, but there's hardly any substance and Ti West seems to aspire to bigger and greater things than the movie he is making now.
