Review of The Innkeepers (2011) by Gavin D — 20 Jul 2013
A very, very good ghost story. My only major complaint is that Claire (the lead) does some stereotypically stupid things (like not staying put when told to, going off on her own when she shouldn't, etc.). A minor complaint is that Luke needed more backstory and fleshing out, and the angry mom and son were wasted screen time. Good sound, good fright moments (if not overly original-- but how original can a ghost story be any more?), pretty good story, decent acting, and good direction.
One thread was not really touched on afterward, and that is the "three spirits" and why they are they and what they had to do with Claire. My guess is that it is supposed to be a precognitive moment from Leanne, but it didn't play that way. Making that clearer would have tightened that aspect of the story up a bit better. (V).
