Review of The Immigrant (2013) by Bill C — 26 Apr 2016
This generic immigrant/victim saga raises legitimate issues of corruption and exploitation which persist to this day - but lacks any real depth. The dialogue is trite, the score maudlin, Marion Cotillard lacks the fire to be a survivor and Joaquin Phoenix convinces us of nothing (other than that he is one strange dude - and we already knew that).
