Review of The Immigrant (2013) by Nick E — 20 Jun 2016
The Immigrant is an American drama directed by James Gray, born in New York City but with a Russian Jewish descent. His grandparents were Russian immigrants who came to the United States in 1923 and The Immigrant is based on their recollections. He described it as his most personal and autobiographical movie by now.
The movie is not some achievement which will force the tears in your eyes or touch your heart, but the second half of the movie, especially the ending scene are surprisingly good. "There is nothing more powerful than the final shot, which provides an unforgettable visual image that can be achieved only by the talent and skill of the man who is behind the camera." He is Darius Khondji, an Iranian-French cinematographer known for his work on: Se7en, Evita, The Beach, Panic Room, My Blueberry Nights, Midnight in Paris, Amour, Irrational Man, etc.
It is worth seeing.
