Review of The Illusionist (2009) by Bryan L — 28 Feb 2011
Ty Burr stated in regards to The Illusionist, "Watching "The Illusionist'' is like peering through a rippled windowpane onto a past that knows it's disappearing." I couldn't have said it any better myself.
I would describe this film as a moving painting; any shot in the movie could be hung up in an art gallery. My favorite part of The Illusionist was of course the ending. I don't believe I've ever seen anything so hauntingly beautiful.
Equally as impressive though was the animators representation of Jacques Tati (Mon Oncle, Mr. Hulot's Holiday), an extremely unique individual, whose behavior was sublimely represented through-out the film.
The Illusionist is highly intelligent and thoroughly thought provoking. An easy A+.
