Review of The Illusionist (2009) by William F — 20 Mar 2011
I can't say I didn't enjoy myself, but the slow pace and lack of dialogue did, in the end, make me the slightest bit bored. And I don't easily become bored.
The movie takes some sad turns at the end, and it doesn't feel forced. I'm not even sure if the film is really missing much of anything. It was funny, poignant, and the animation was nice to look at. But something about the experience just didn't fully engross me. I was easily distracted by the sounds in the audience, by my thirst, and by wondering what time it was and if I'd catch the end of the Duke vs. Michigan game. That's got to say something, right?
