Review of The Illusionist (2009) by Matt D — 15 May 2011
The Illusionist is brilliantly illustrated. The animation in this is just top drawer, hand drawn and filled with so many charming details. It is the story of a struggling magician who along the way meets a young girl who believes whole-heartedly in his magic (unlike his audience) and runs away to join him as he goes from job to job (having to sometimes take very menial jobs) in order to support them both.
Her faith in him and their loyalty to one another demonstrates what magic really is. Totally delightful animated film that deserved it's Oscar nomination in 2010.
