Review of The Illusionist (2009) by Alexander H — 25 Mar 2012
So gorgeous to look at, you wish you could visit its late '50s Paris, London and especially Edinburgh but there's something unsettling, almost misogynistic, in Alice's slide from innocent companion to insatiable idiot and the fact that we're apparently meant to sympathise with the weak-minded protagonist who enables it makes it no less problematic.
