Review of The Ice Storm (1997) by Sarah G — 15 Jan 2013
With it's gripping score, it's excellent ensemble cast and it's portrayal of suburban life in the 1970's (using thought provoking metaphors to superhero comics) this overlooked gem of Ang Lee is a solid work of cinema.
It follows the lives of 2 neighbouring families in Connecticut who's members include a husband cheating on his wife (Kevin Kline), a wife cheating on her husband (Sigourney Weaver), an obnoxious and promiscuous 14 year old girl (Christina Ricci), a nerdy, romantically challenged sixteen year old boy (Tobey Maguire) and the voice of reason (Elijah Wood) who, after the ice storm makes them realize why they should have just been loyal to each other.
