Review of The Ice Storm (1997) by Wes M — 20 Sep 2013
"A family is like your own personal anti-matter. Your family is the void you emerge from, and the place you return to when you die. And that's the paradox: the closer you're drawn back in, the deeper into the void you go.
" The 3rd film in the Oak Park Movie Night. Ugh, this was fantastic, and it just seemed to keep getting better and better. Easily one of the best movies of the '90s...about the '70s haha. Ang Lee is probably rolling his eyes at me for almost giving up on him just because of Hulk.
A lot of stars in this, both veterans and up-and-coming stars at the time: *takes a deep breath* Kevin Kline, Joan Allen, Tobey Maguire, Christina Ricci, Elijah Wood, Sigourney Weaver, and Katie Holmes.
Another wonderful score from Mychael Danna (guy who did Boondock Saints and Life Of Pi). The movie explores those fun '70s highlights, such as the sexual revolution, Watergate, alcoholism, drugs, and general escapism.
Yea, nothing negative for this one, a great slow burn that takes its time and forces you to connect with the characters. It might've been my favorite of the night...or my #2.
